From the Worthington School District Board Policy Manual, File: BBA.
The Board considers the following to be its major responsibilities:
1. to select and employ a Superintendent;
2. to select and employ a Treasurer;
3. to determine and pass upon the annual budget and appropriation;
4. to provide, as limited by voter approval, the funds necessary to finance the operation of the schools and the building of facilities;
5. to consider and approve or reject the recommendations of the Superintendent in all matters of policy, appointment or dismissal of employees, salary schedules or other personnel policies, courses of study, selection of textbooks, or other matters pertaining to the welfare of the schools;
6. to require reports of the Superintendent concerning the conditions, efficiency and needs of the schools;
7. to evaluate the effectiveness with which the schools are achieving the educational purposes of the board of education;
8. to inform the public about the progress and needs of the schools and to solicit and weigh public opinion;
9. to adopt policies for its governance and the governance of its employees and the students of the schools;
10. to establish goals for the school system and periodically evaluate progress toward achievement of those goals and
11. to inform the residents of the District of pending state and federal legislation affecting schools and, as deemed necessary, attempt to influence such legislation.

Slate Hill Elementary School staff have put together an impressive proposal to bring IB to the Worthington School District. "The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program is our guiding structure for renewal. We did so because the implementation of this well-established and respected program will provide all of our students with the skills and attitudes to be highly successful, productive and responsible citizens who have a wealth of relevant 21st century skills.

Board of Education meetings are usually scheduled on the second and fourth Monday of each month. The May meetings are on the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month due to the Memorial Day holiday on the 4th Monday. The month of July and December have only one regularly scheduled meeting. Additional special meetings may be scheduled as needed.
